CEI-Bois and EOS participated at the COLI high-level international bioeconomy event, which brought together ministers and senior policymakers from across the globe to discuss the future of the forest-based bioeconomy and its role in climate neutrality and sustainable growth, taking place in Vienna on 23-25 February 2025. Unlocking the full potential of the bioeconomy requires a pragmatic, market-oriented and coherent policy framework grounded in industrial reality. In particular, the development of the bioeconomy cannot disregard the supply of raw materials.
The timber sector highlighted that it is already delivering climate mitigation and adaptation solutions by substituting fossil-based and non-renewable materials in construction, manufacturing, and everyday products.
However, unlocking the full potential of the bioeconomy requires:
A competitive, market-driven and coherent EU policy framework
Secure and sufficient raw material supply
Enhanced wood mobilisation, while respecting national sustainable forest management frameworks
A non-discriminatory approach combining primary and secondary wood resources
Bioeconomy Strategy must go beyond research support and actively promote the scaling-up and diversification of existing bio-based solutions.
