CEI-Bois joins launch of the European Housing Alliance

On 19 June, CEI-Bois participated in the launch meeting of the European Housing Alliance following its successful membership application, joining a broad platform bringing together EU institutions, public authorities, industry and housing stakeholders to address Europe’s housing challenges.

CEI-Bois welcomes the Alliance as a practical forum that should focus on a limited number of shared priorities and the key bottlenecks preventing faster housing delivery, with a clear emphasis on translating them into concrete policy and legislative action at all levels.

From our perspective, the number one priority is clear: Europe needs more housing, faster, and this requires improving construction productivity and revitalising the sector through industrialised and offsite construction, which can reduce costs, shorten timelines and strengthen sustainability.

At the same time, CEI-Bois calls for less administrative complexity, faster permitting and modernised local regulation, alongside stronger use of existing EU initiatives such as the CPR, EPBD, and the Bioeconomy Strategy to deliver affordable and sustainable housing.

This should go hand in hand with maintaining construction decarbonisation as a core EU objective, while unlocking the Single Market benefits of cross-border industrialised construction that can also create jobs across Member States.
