CEI-Bois raises timber sector concerns with WoodPoP on the Industrial Accelerator Act

On 16 June, CEI-Bois participated in the WoodPoP Governance Technical Working Group, where it raised concerns regarding the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) and its potential implications for the broader bio-based industries.
In particular, CEI-Bois warned against unintended market distortions that could result from favouring sectors within the IAA’s scope over other providers of low-carbon, renewable materials, including those covered by the Bioeconomy Strategy.
CEI-Bois underlined that a “cherry-picking” approach in industrial support should be avoided. Instead, policy should strengthen the competitiveness of Europe’s entire industrial base through a level playing field for all manufacturing sectors contributing to climate neutrality, strategic autonomy, and resilience.
CEI-Bois therefore calls for consistency between the IAA and the Bioeconomy Strategy, ensuring performance-based procurement criteria that allow all solutions to compete fairly based on overall environmental contribution, while noting that ongoing legislative changes may further increase uncertainty around the final design of the IAA.
