On 27 May, CEI-Bois attended the European Commission (DG GROW) training session on the environmental sustainability of construction products, focusing on upcoming requirements under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR-2024).

The discussion highlighted key implications for manufacturers, in particular regarding environmental assessment and verification procedures, product grouping, and lifecycle-based approaches.

A summary was shared with CEI-Bois Members, and the recording is available here. CEI-Bois stresses that the CPR-2024 must be implemented in a streamlined and practical way, with a strong focus on simplifying environmental sustainability assessment and verification, especially for SMEs.

As strong advocates of a whole-life carbon approach that recognises the climate benefits of biogenic carbon storage in wood, we support robust yet workable calculation and reporting of lifecycle GWP. At the same time, implementation must be supported by financial assistance for SMEs, publicly accessible and user-friendly LCA tools and databases, and sufficient training of verifiers to ensure consistent and cost-effective compliance across the sector.
