On 9 February 2026, CEI-Bois requested the re-approval of Tebuconazole for use in biocidal products (product type 8) in its response to a public consultation by the European Chemicals Agency.
CEI-Bois demonstrated the lack of viable alternatives for wood preservation and highlighted the negligible exposure resulting from controlled application conditions. It also underlined Tebuconazole’s essential role in preventing serious environmental and structural risks linked to wood decay, as well as the disproportionate socio-economic and environmental consequences that non-renewal would entail compared to the limited risks associated with its continued, controlled use.
As downstream users, stakeholders across the wood sector could be significantly affected by a non-approval.
CEI-Bois therefore welcomes the Commission’s decision to postpone the expiry date until 30 June 2027, as it provides additional time for a thorough assessment of the concerns raised and, we hope, will lead to a well-balanced evaluation resulting in the renewal of the approval.
